I nearly blew it!

I went off to work in the afternoon and left it to Sarah to make the dinner arrangements. In hindsight, this was not the most gentlemanly thing to do. Mistake #1.

Furthermore, I wasn't able to help settle the kids and left it all to Sarah. But she was graciously fine with it and wasn't stressed at all with juggling everything - all in time to come out to the city to meet me.

However, instead of making it easier for her and setting a right tone for the evening, I decided to take a bus to the restaurant since it wasn't far from the office. I was then foolish enough not to back my decision with a map and little did I know how obscure this place was to find. We were asking directions left, right and centre and after walking for 15mins up a hill in the dark, we finally found it.

Sarah was not at all impressed. I can see beads of sweat forming on her face. I blew it big time and almost managed to make it our last anniversary! BIG mistake #2.

Fortunately, the dinner experience was pleasant and helped reclaim some of the loss.

Next time, I will consider a limo...

She said "Yes"!

Well, what did you expect? We are already married afterall :-)

The day was not ideal, though - I had to return to work to resolve a crisis which ruined my plans of spending the entire with my wife. But whatever time we did have was great...

I started off the day pretending everything was normal - that I was going to work, etc. I bought a bottle of wine as a "red herring" gift the night before, and she found it at breakfast time. I could tell she seemed a bit disappointed... so I played along and said that I thought there was a slight chance she would be disappointed even though she was really longing for a bottle of wine (since being in Singapore for 4mths, we haven't enjoyed the "luxury" of wine).

So I went off to work but instead took a different route to get some flowers. Alas! of all days, Sarah chose this day to look out the window waiting to wave goodbye and also drop a surprise chocolate bar down to me (10 floors down!) By the way, she calls it her "drop-off" point. Not seeing me after waiting and waiting, she called me wondering where I am. I said I was trying out a different way today and she was a bit surprised.

Eventually, she checked the laptop which I had setup to play the video. This led her to this blog and she found out the entire plot. Just as I had planned - only a few minutes earlier than I had expected. By this time, I was downstairs preparing to come up to propose with the flowers but she somewhat unravelled the plan by calling and asking if I was on my way home. How did she know?! Of course! I had described my plan in the blog!

In actual fact, it was me who unravelled my own plan. But it didn't matter - Sarah was thrilled nonetheless and when I asked her on my knees, with my two awe-struck girls as witnesses, she said 'yes'!

Happy Anniversary!

My beloved wife, Sarah;

Welcome to this blog! I wish us a very happy 9th anniversary and many, many more years to come!

This is the secret/surprise that I have been keeping from you. It doesn't compare with jewellery or a Mac - but I hope you like it.

With all my love,
Alex

Video completed!

At last, I finished the video at the risk of upsetting the very person whom it is for!!

I been working on it throughout the weekend at every opportunity EVEN IN FRONT OF HER! She keeps asking me why I have one of the earbuds on... I think she is suspecting something. But hope the video will be beyond her expectation! Making the video was so rewarding for me, especially seeing Sarah's expression and the way she looked at me on our wedding day. !

Also planned to take the day off but still pretend to go to work while getting flowers instead - heheh!

Can't wait!

Movie Caption

This is going to be the words in the video...

I know you've already married me,
And for nine years no less.
What more could I ask for?
I have already been so blessed!

However

There is one thing my dear...
If it wouldn't be too much of a pain,
Is that this time next year...
Will you marry me again?

Time is slipping

OK, gotta be quick! My wife has gone out for a well deserved break and I'm home with the kids for the morning. A good chance to work on the movie with the kids!

About the ring... the plan is to get an eternity ring as a "wedding band" - this will nicely double up as a 10 yr anniversary gift.

Now, just need some ideas for the movie...

Gotta get creative

So, my wife has hinted that she would rather a Mac than jewellery and I have reconfirmed that with her on a number of occasions. So how can I carry out my proposal idea without a ring? I am still planning to get her a ring anyway, but more on that later...

Well, one idea is to use the Mac to make her a proposal movie... with the help of my daughters (who's only 5.5 and 3 yrs old)! I will interview them and ask them to help me ask mummy to marry daddy AGAIN! The second idea is to keep this blog and let her in on the secret as a part of my proposal.

I know it's no substitute for diamonds, but I've found that we have shared our most romantic moments back when we had next to nothing. I guess it forces us to be more creative.
